Surgical Hand & Wrist Procedures

  • Primary Tendon Repair Direct surgical repair of acute tendon injuries using microsurgical techniques. Our surgeons precisely realign and suture torn tendon ends to restore continuity and function, typically performed within days of injury for optimal healing.
  • Tendon Reconstruction For chronic or complex tendon injuries, reconstruction using tendon grafts or transfers may be necessary. This advanced procedure restores function when primary repair isn't possible, often using your own healthy tendon tissue.
  • Flexor Tendon Repair Specialized repair of flexor tendons that control finger bending. These delicate procedures require precise surgical technique and coordinated post-operative therapy to restore smooth gliding motion and grip strength.
  • Extensor Tendon Repair Repair of extensor tendons that straighten fingers and thumb. These procedures focus on restoring the ability to extend digits fully while maintaining the delicate balance between flexion and extension forces.

What to Expect During Your Tendon Repair Journey

1

Comprehensive Evaluation

Your hand surgeon will perform a detailed examination, review imaging studies like MRI or ultrasound, and discuss your injury mechanism and functional goals to develop your personalized treatment plan.

2

Surgical Procedure

Under local or regional anesthesia, your surgeon will carefully repair the damaged tendon using microsurgical techniques. The procedure typically takes 1-2 hours depending on the complexity of your injury.

3

Initial Recovery

Your hand will be placed in a protective splint immediately after surgery. You'll receive detailed instructions for wound care, pain management, and activity restrictions during the first 2-3 weeks of healing.

4

Rehabilitation Phase

Working with our hand therapists, you'll begin a carefully controlled exercise program to restore movement and strength. This phase typically spans 3-4 months with progressive milestones.

5

Return to Full Activity

Most patients return to normal activities and work within 3-6 months, depending on their occupation and healing progress. Our team monitors your recovery closely to ensure optimal outcomes.

SH
Expected to see Dr. Bohm and wanted to discuss new issue; but saw PA (which is fine) and was asked about an old injection I had back in August
SB
I have not rarely worked with a physician who has it all--expertise, patience, great bedside manner, with attention to detail. I've said in the past and many times since that I believe he saved my hand post severe wrist fracture. Most recently, we talked about some numbness in that thumb, no pain, just annoyance. He explained what likely is the cause and my treatment options while leaving it totally up to me. His staff is also great
SM
Dr Kyle was so great. He helped me with out having to have surgery. His staff could communicate more.
SG
Dr Bohm is awesome! I was fortunate enough to be in the team’s office for a follow up with his colleague. That Dr (Kassa) noticed an ace bandage on my right hand/wrist and inquired about the injury. I explained to him that I was in extreme pain and was planning to see a specialist (different office) and the soonest I could get in was 1/12/25. He immediately said “No, we’re going to get you taken care of right now) they DID! I not only got to see Dr Bohm, he ordered X-rays, gave me a cortisone injection and made sure the meds I was prescribed were aligned with the plan of treatment he came up with on the spot! After the X-rays Dr Bohm sat with me to review them and he took his time to make sure I understood my diagnosis what that meant and all treatment options available to me. I was thoroughly impressed with his knowledge/ability & willingness to take the time to do that so articulately. I went to that office for a follow up regarding back/neck injections, which are great! To having a new hand specialist and being taken care of on the spot. When just hours before I was pacing the floor at home contemplating going to the ER. A place we all know would have done nothing but waste hours of my life. I couldn’t be more thankful to the people at this office and especially Dr Bohm. If you have the need for this type of Dr or any other Dr honestly, don’t waste your time looking elsewhere, this place is truly amazing. Filled with not only Dr’s but a staff that truly cares about the patient. That’s right, a Dr’s office full of people that care about there patients. It’s amazing to finally have one of these back!

Very nice. Understanding
MF
Check-in staff did an awesome job helping me set additional appts and was super friendly! Dr. B was helpful as always and a pleasure to see. It did seem like the MA who brought me back may have been having a bit of a bad day. While she was proficient, she wasn’t super friendly. Maybe just having an off day or it was too early and she wasn’t awake yet :)
PG
