  • Fellowship-trained hand surgeons specializing in microsurgical nerve repair
  • Comprehensive diagnostic testing including nerve conduction studies
  • Advanced surgical techniques including nerve grafting and transfers
  • Integrated rehabilitation with specialized hand therapy

Non-Surgical Treatments

Start With the Least-Invasive Options

Most patients improve without surgery. Our team takes a conservative-first approach with treatments designed to reduce pain, improve strength, and prevent future flare-ups.

Non-Surgical Hand & Wrist Treatments

  • Specialized Hand Therapy Our certified hand therapists work with you to maintain range of motion, prevent contractures, and optimize function during nerve healing. Early intervention can significantly improve outcomes and prevent complications.
    • Range of motion exercises and splinting
    • Sensory re-education techniques
  • Nerve Stimulation Therapy Electrical nerve stimulation may help promote nerve regeneration and reduce pain in certain cases. This non-invasive treatment can be used alongside other therapies to enhance recovery.
    • Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS)
    • Neuromuscular electrical stimulation
  • Anti-Inflammatory Treatment Targeted medications and injections can reduce inflammation around damaged nerves, potentially improving function and reducing pain. This approach is often most effective in cases of nerve compression or early injury.
    • Corticosteroid injections
    • Oral anti-inflammatory medications
  • Activity Modification and Bracing Protective splinting and activity modifications can prevent further nerve damage while allowing partial healing in minor injuries. Our team will guide you through proper techniques to protect your healing nerve.
    • Custom protective splinting
    • Ergonomic modifications

Many patients with minor nerve injuries experience significant improvement within 8-12 weeks of starting their personalized rehabilitation program.

Surgical Hand & Wrist Procedures

  • Primary Nerve Repair For clean, acute nerve injuries, our surgeons can directly reconnect the nerve ends using microsurgical techniques. This procedure offers the best potential for complete recovery when performed within hours to days of injury.
  • Nerve Grafting When there's a gap between nerve ends, we use healthy nerve tissue from another part of your body to bridge the gap. This technique allows nerve regeneration across longer distances and is often successful in restoring function.
  • Nerve Transfer Surgery In cases where direct repair isn't possible, we can transfer a healthy, functioning nerve to restore critical functions like thumb movement or grip strength. This innovative technique can provide excellent functional outcomes even in complex cases.
  • Neurolysis When nerve compression or scar tissue is causing dysfunction, we can surgically release the nerve and remove constraining tissues. This procedure often provides immediate improvement in nerve function and sensation.
Star
Over 85% of our nerve repair patients experience significant improvement in sensation and function within 12-18 months of surgery.

What to Expect with Nerve Repair

1

Comprehensive Evaluation

Your surgeon will perform a detailed examination and order nerve conduction studies or imaging to assess the extent and location of nerve damage.

2

Surgical Planning

We'll discuss the best surgical approach for your specific injury, whether that's direct repair, grafting, or nerve transfer, and explain what to expect during recovery.

3

Microsurgical Repair

Your procedure will be performed under magnification using specialized microsurgical instruments to ensure precise nerve reconnection and optimal healing conditions.

4

Protected Healing Phase

Following surgery, you'll wear a protective splint for 3-4 weeks while the initial nerve healing occurs, with gentle range of motion exercises as directed.

5

Progressive Rehabilitation

Our certified hand therapists will guide you through a comprehensive rehabilitation program focused on nerve regeneration, sensory re-education, and functional recovery.

SH
Expected to see Dr. Bohm and wanted to discuss new issue; but saw PA (which is fine) and was asked about an old injection I had back in August
SB
I have not rarely worked with a physician who has it all--expertise, patience, great bedside manner, with attention to detail. I've said in the past and many times since that I believe he saved my hand post severe wrist fracture. Most recently, we talked about some numbness in that thumb, no pain, just annoyance. He explained what likely is the cause and my treatment options while leaving it totally up to me. His staff is also great
SM
Dr Kyle was so great. He helped me with out having to have surgery. His staff could communicate more.
SG
Dr Bohm is awesome! I was fortunate enough to be in the team’s office for a follow up with his colleague. That Dr (Kassa) noticed an ace bandage on my right hand/wrist and inquired about the injury. I explained to him that I was in extreme pain and was planning to see a specialist (different office) and the soonest I could get in was 1/12/25. He immediately said “No, we’re going to get you taken care of right now) they DID! I not only got to see Dr Bohm, he ordered X-rays, gave me a cortisone injection and made sure the meds I was prescribed were aligned with the plan of treatment he came up with on the spot! After the X-rays Dr Bohm sat with me to review them and he took his time to make sure I understood my diagnosis what that meant and all treatment options available to me. I was thoroughly impressed with his knowledge/ability & willingness to take the time to do that so articulately. I went to that office for a follow up regarding back/neck injections, which are great! To having a new hand specialist and being taken care of on the spot. When just hours before I was pacing the floor at home contemplating going to the ER. A place we all know would have done nothing but waste hours of my life. I couldn’t be more thankful to the people at this office and especially Dr Bohm. If you have the need for this type of Dr or any other Dr honestly, don’t waste your time looking elsewhere, this place is truly amazing. Filled with not only Dr’s but a staff that truly cares about the patient. That’s right, a Dr’s office full of people that care about there patients. It’s amazing to finally have one of these back!

Very nice. Understanding
MF
Check-in staff did an awesome job helping me set additional appts and was super friendly! Dr. B was helpful as always and a pleasure to see. It did seem like the MA who brought me back may have been having a bit of a bad day. While she was proficient, she wasn’t super friendly. Maybe just having an off day or it was too early and she wasn’t awake yet :)
PG
