  • Comprehensive rehabilitation support from our in-house physical therapists

Non-Surgical Treatments

Start With the Least-Invasive Options

Most patients improve without surgery. Our team takes a conservative-first approach with treatments designed to reduce pain, improve strength, and prevent future flare-ups.

Non-Surgical Hand & Wrist Treatments

  • Activity Modification and Ergonomics Our occupational therapists help you identify and modify activities that aggravate your symptoms. Simple changes in sleeping position, work habits, and daily activities can significantly reduce nerve compression and improve comfort.
    • Workplace ergonomic assessments and adjustments
    • Sleep positioning techniques to reduce nighttime symptoms
  • Splinting and Bracing Custom elbow splints or braces help keep your arm in a neutral position, especially during sleep when symptoms often worsen. Our certified orthotists create comfortable, effective devices tailored to your specific needs.
    • Nighttime elbow splints to prevent excessive bending
    • Daytime activity braces for symptom management
  • Physical Therapy Targeted exercises and manual therapy techniques help improve nerve mobility and reduce inflammation. Our physical therapists design programs to strengthen surrounding muscles and improve overall arm function.
    • Nerve gliding exercises to improve ulnar nerve mobility
    • Strengthening programs for hand and forearm muscles
  • Anti-inflammatory Treatments Medications and injection therapies can reduce inflammation around the ulnar nerve. Our pain management specialists may recommend oral medications or targeted steroid injections to decrease swelling and relieve symptoms.
    • Oral anti-inflammatory medications
    • Targeted steroid injections around the nerve

Surgical Options

Cubital Tunnel Release

Watch how our fellowship-trained surgeons perform minimally invasive cubital tunnel release to restore nerve function.

Surgical Hand & Wrist Procedures

  • Simple Decompression (In-Situ Release) This minimally invasive procedure involves releasing the tight tissue around the ulnar nerve without moving the nerve itself. It's often effective for mild to moderate cases and typically performed as an outpatient procedure with local anesthesia.
  • Ulnar Nerve Transposition For more severe cases, the ulnar nerve is moved from behind the elbow to the front, creating a straighter path and reducing tension. This comprehensive approach addresses both current compression and prevents future symptoms.
  • Endoscopic Cubital Tunnel Release Using advanced endoscopic techniques, our surgeons can release the compressed nerve through smaller incisions. This minimally invasive approach often results in less scarring, reduced postoperative pain, and faster recovery times.
Star
Over 85% of our cubital tunnel release patients experience significant improvement in numbness and tingling within 3 months of surgery.

What to Expect

1

Comprehensive Evaluation

Your hand surgeon will perform a detailed examination and may order nerve conduction studies to confirm the diagnosis and determine the best treatment approach for your specific condition.

2

Pre-Surgical Planning

If surgery is recommended, we'll discuss the procedure details, review your medical history, and provide pre-operative instructions to ensure you're fully prepared for your treatment.

3

Outpatient Surgery

Most cubital tunnel releases are performed as same-day procedures using local anesthesia. The surgery typically takes 30-60 minutes, depending on the specific technique used.

4

Early Recovery

You'll receive detailed post-operative care instructions and may begin gentle range-of-motion exercises within a few days, with gradual progression based on your healing response.

5

Rehabilitation and Follow-up

Our physical therapists will guide you through a structured recovery program, while regular follow-up appointments ensure optimal healing and return to full function.

Expected to see Dr. Bohm and wanted to discuss new issue; but saw PA (which is fine) and was asked about an old injection I had back in August

I have not rarely worked with a physician who has it all--expertise, patience, great bedside manner, with attention to detail. I've said in the past and many times since that I believe he saved my hand post severe wrist fracture. Most recently, we talked about some numbness in that thumb, no pain, just annoyance. He explained what likely is the cause and my treatment options while leaving it totally up to me. His staff is also great
SM
Dr Kyle was so great. He helped me with out having to have surgery. His staff could communicate more.
SG
Dr Bohm is awesome! I was fortunate enough to be in the team’s office for a follow up with his colleague. That Dr (Kassa) noticed an ace bandage on my right hand/wrist and inquired about the injury. I explained to him that I was in extreme pain and was planning to see a specialist (different office) and the soonest I could get in was 1/12/25. He immediately said “No, we’re going to get you taken care of right now) they DID! I not only got to see Dr Bohm, he ordered X-rays, gave me a cortisone injection and made sure the meds I was prescribed were aligned with the plan of treatment he came up with on the spot! After the X-rays Dr Bohm sat with me to review them and he took his time to make sure I understood my diagnosis what that meant and all treatment options available to me. I was thoroughly impressed with his knowledge/ability & willingness to take the time to do that so articulately. I went to that office for a follow up regarding back/neck injections, which are great! To having a new hand specialist and being taken care of on the spot. When just hours before I was pacing the floor at home contemplating going to the ER. A place we all know would have done nothing but waste hours of my life. I couldn’t be more thankful to the people at this office and especially Dr Bohm. If you have the need for this type of Dr or any other Dr honestly, don’t waste your time looking elsewhere, this place is truly amazing. Filled with not only Dr’s but a staff that truly cares about the patient. That’s right, a Dr’s office full of people that care about there patients. It’s amazing to finally have one of these back!

Very nice. Understanding
MF
Check-in staff did an awesome job helping me set additional appts and was super friendly! Dr. B was helpful as always and a pleasure to see. It did seem like the MA who brought me back may have been having a bit of a bad day. While she was proficient, she wasn’t super friendly. Maybe just having an off day or it was too early and she wasn’t awake yet :)
PG
