Your Treatment Options for Carpal Tunnel Release

At Synergy Health Partners, we provide comprehensive carpal tunnel treatment tailored to your specific needs and symptom severity. Our fellowship-trained hand surgeons work with you to determine the most effective approach, starting with conservative treatments and advancing to surgical options when necessary.
  • Fellowship-trained hand and upper extremity specialists
  • Advanced diagnostic testing including nerve conduction studies
  • Minimally invasive surgical techniques for faster recovery
  • Comprehensive rehabilitation with in-house physical therapy

Non-Surgical Treatments

Start With the Least-Invasive Options

Most patients improve without surgery. Our team takes a conservative-first approach with treatments designed to reduce pain, improve strength, and prevent future flare-ups.

Non-Surgical Hand & Wrist Treatments

  • Wrist Splinting and Bracing Custom-fitted splints keep your wrist in a neutral position, reducing pressure on the median nerve. Night splints are particularly effective as they prevent the wrist bending that often worsens symptoms during sleep.
    • Custom night splints to prevent symptom flare-ups
    • Daytime activity modification and ergonomic adjustments
  • Corticosteroid Injections Targeted steroid injections into the carpal tunnel reduce inflammation around the median nerve, providing significant symptom relief. These injections can be particularly effective for patients with mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome.
    • Ultrasound-guided injections for precise placement
    • Anti-inflammatory medication to reduce nerve compression
  • Physical Therapy Our specialized hand therapists use nerve gliding exercises, stretching, and strengthening techniques to improve median nerve mobility and reduce symptoms. Manual therapy techniques help optimize hand and wrist function.
    • Median nerve mobilization exercises
    • Ergonomic training and workplace modifications
  • Activity Modification Our occupational therapists help identify daily activities that may be contributing to your symptoms and provide practical strategies to reduce strain on your wrists. Workplace ergonomic assessments ensure proper positioning during repetitive tasks.
    • Workplace ergonomic evaluation and setup
    • Adaptive equipment recommendations

Many patients experience significant symptom relief within 4-6 weeks of starting conservative treatment, with over 70% avoiding the need for surgery when treated early.

Surgical Options

If Surgery is Right for You

Procedures are determined after evaluation—this list is for education only.
Carpal Tunnel Release

Watch how our fellowship-trained hand surgeons perform minimally invasive carpal tunnel release procedures using advanced techniques.

Surgical Hand & Wrist Procedures

  • Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Release This minimally invasive technique uses a small endoscope inserted through a tiny incision to visualize and cut the transverse carpal ligament. The procedure typically results in less pain, smaller scars, and faster recovery compared to traditional open surgery.
  • Open Carpal Tunnel Release The traditional approach involves a small incision in the palm to directly visualize and cut the transverse carpal ligament. This method allows for complete visualization of the nerve and surrounding structures, ensuring thorough decompression of the median nerve.
  • Mini-Open Carpal Tunnel Release A hybrid technique that combines the benefits of open surgery with a smaller incision. This approach provides excellent visualization while minimizing tissue disruption and reducing recovery time compared to traditional open procedures.
Star
Over 95% of our carpal tunnel release patients experience complete resolution of nighttime symptoms, with most returning to normal hand function within 6-8 weeks.

Expected to see Dr. Bohm and wanted to discuss new issue; but saw PA (which is fine) and was asked about an old injection I had back in August
SB
I have not rarely worked with a physician who has it all--expertise, patience, great bedside manner, with attention to detail. I've said in the past and many times since that I believe he saved my hand post severe wrist fracture. Most recently, we talked about some numbness in that thumb, no pain, just annoyance. He explained what likely is the cause and my treatment options while leaving it totally up to me. His staff is also great
SM
Dr Kyle was so great. He helped me with out having to have surgery. His staff could communicate more.
SG
Dr Bohm is awesome! I was fortunate enough to be in the team’s office for a follow up with his colleague. That Dr (Kassa) noticed an ace bandage on my right hand/wrist and inquired about the injury. I explained to him that I was in extreme pain and was planning to see a specialist (different office) and the soonest I could get in was 1/12/25. He immediately said “No, we’re going to get you taken care of right now) they DID! I not only got to see Dr Bohm, he ordered X-rays, gave me a cortisone injection and made sure the meds I was prescribed were aligned with the plan of treatment he came up with on the spot! After the X-rays Dr Bohm sat with me to review them and he took his time to make sure I understood my diagnosis what that meant and all treatment options available to me. I was thoroughly impressed with his knowledge/ability & willingness to take the time to do that so articulately. I went to that office for a follow up regarding back/neck injections, which are great! To having a new hand specialist and being taken care of on the spot. When just hours before I was pacing the floor at home contemplating going to the ER. A place we all know would have done nothing but waste hours of my life. I couldn’t be more thankful to the people at this office and especially Dr Bohm. If you have the need for this type of Dr or any other Dr honestly, don’t waste your time looking elsewhere, this place is truly amazing. Filled with not only Dr’s but a staff that truly cares about the patient. That’s right, a Dr’s office full of people that care about there patients. It’s amazing to finally have one of these back!

MF
Check-in staff did an awesome job helping me set additional appts and was super friendly! Dr. B was helpful as always and a pleasure to see. It did seem like the MA who brought me back may have been having a bit of a bad day. While she was proficient, she wasn’t super friendly. Maybe just having an off day or it was too early and she wasn’t awake yet :)
PG
