Non-Surgical Treatments

Start With the Least-Invasive Options

Most patients improve without surgery. Our team takes a conservative-first approach with treatments designed to reduce pain, improve strength, and prevent future flare-ups.

Non-Surgical Hand & Wrist Treatments

  • Casting and Immobilization For stable fractures, casting provides the support needed for proper bone healing. Our team uses modern casting materials and techniques to ensure comfort while maintaining proper alignment throughout the healing process.
    • Traditional plaster and modern fiberglass casting
    • Removable braces and splints for certain fracture types
  • Functional Bracing Advanced bracing systems allow controlled movement while protecting the healing fracture. This approach can accelerate recovery for certain fracture types while maintaining muscle strength and joint mobility.
    • Custom-fitted functional braces
    • Progressive weight-bearing protocols
  • Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Our in-house physical therapy team develops personalized rehabilitation programs to restore strength, flexibility, and function. Early mobilization and targeted exercises promote faster healing and prevent complications.
    • Range of motion and strengthening exercises
    • Gait training and balance restoration
  • Bone Stimulation Therapy For fractures that are slow to heal, electrical bone stimulation can accelerate the healing process. This non-invasive treatment uses electrical or ultrasound energy to promote new bone formation.
    • External electrical bone stimulators
    • Low-intensity pulsed ultrasound therapy
  • Pain Management Our integrated pain management specialists work closely with your orthopedic team to provide comprehensive pain relief during the healing process. We focus on multimodal approaches to minimize reliance on opioids.
    • Targeted injection therapy
    • Advanced pain medication management

Fracture Repair

Surgical Hand & Wrist Procedures

  • Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF) For complex or displaced fractures, ORIF surgery realigns bone fragments and secures them with plates, screws, or rods. Our surgeons use minimally invasive techniques when possible to reduce scarring and speed recovery.
  • Intramedullary Nailing This technique involves placing a metal rod inside the bone's marrow cavity to stabilize long bone fractures. Intramedullary nailing provides excellent stability while allowing early mobilization and faster return to activities.
  • External Fixation For severe fractures with extensive soft tissue damage, external fixation provides stable bone alignment while allowing access for wound care. This temporary solution often precedes definitive internal fixation once swelling subsides.
  • Arthroscopic Fracture Repair For fractures involving joints, arthroscopic techniques allow precise repair through small incisions. This minimally invasive approach reduces surgical trauma and enables faster recovery with better joint function preservation.
Star
Over 92% of our fracture surgery patients achieve excellent bone union and return to their pre-injury activity level within 3-6 months, depending on the fracture complexity.

SH
Expected to see Dr. Bohm and wanted to discuss new issue; but saw PA (which is fine) and was asked about an old injection I had back in August
SB
I have not rarely worked with a physician who has it all--expertise, patience, great bedside manner, with attention to detail. I've said in the past and many times since that I believe he saved my hand post severe wrist fracture. Most recently, we talked about some numbness in that thumb, no pain, just annoyance. He explained what likely is the cause and my treatment options while leaving it totally up to me. His staff is also great
SM
Dr Kyle was so great. He helped me with out having to have surgery. His staff could communicate more.
SG
Dr Bohm is awesome! I was fortunate enough to be in the team’s office for a follow up with his colleague. That Dr (Kassa) noticed an ace bandage on my right hand/wrist and inquired about the injury. I explained to him that I was in extreme pain and was planning to see a specialist (different office) and the soonest I could get in was 1/12/25. He immediately said “No, we’re going to get you taken care of right now) they DID! I not only got to see Dr Bohm, he ordered X-rays, gave me a cortisone injection and made sure the meds I was prescribed were aligned with the plan of treatment he came up with on the spot! After the X-rays Dr Bohm sat with me to review them and he took his time to make sure I understood my diagnosis what that meant and all treatment options available to me. I was thoroughly impressed with his knowledge/ability & willingness to take the time to do that so articulately. I went to that office for a follow up regarding back/neck injections, which are great! To having a new hand specialist and being taken care of on the spot. When just hours before I was pacing the floor at home contemplating going to the ER. A place we all know would have done nothing but waste hours of my life. I couldn’t be more thankful to the people at this office and especially Dr Bohm. If you have the need for this type of Dr or any other Dr honestly, don’t waste your time looking elsewhere, this place is truly amazing. Filled with not only Dr’s but a staff that truly cares about the patient. That’s right, a Dr’s office full of people that care about there patients. It’s amazing to finally have one of these back!

RD
Very nice. Understanding
MF
Check-in staff did an awesome job helping me set additional appts and was super friendly! Dr. B was helpful as always and a pleasure to see. It did seem like the MA who brought me back may have been having a bit of a bad day. While she was proficient, she wasn’t super friendly. Maybe just having an off day or it was too early and she wasn’t awake yet :)
PG
